Sierra Leone’s national team Leone Stars will take on Les Sao of Chad in the 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifiers. The Group G curtain-raiser will take place today at 4PM local time at the Samuel K. Doe Stadium in Monrovia, Liberia as both teams look for a place at the AFCON in Morocco next year.
The Leone Stars team is headed by Head Coach Amidu Karim. Yesterday, at the pre-match conference, Coach Karim said he was “determined” to make it to the AFCON.
Team captain Steven Caulker, will lead a 25-man squad including eight home-based players and 17 foreign-based nationals.
New additions to the line-up include Crystal Palace midfielder Hindolo Mustapha with his first call-up to the national team. The 21-year-old has been with the London club since age nine. He hopes to make himself a regular call-up in the squad as he fires up for his international debut.
Match History
Last time Leone Stars and Les Sao played was in 2015. Sierra Leone won 2-1.
The higher ranked Leone Stars are the favorite to win today’s match. Sierra Leone sits at 122 in the latest FIFA ranking while Chad is at 178.
But both sides have had a poor run recently. Leone Stars have just one win in six games across all competitions, registering two draws and three losses. Chad on the other hand has won two of their last six games and lost four across all competitions.
Other Group G contenders include defending champions Côte d’Ivoire and 2012 winners Zambia.
