Wizkid and Davido Reignite Their Feud on X
The long standing rivalry between Nigerian music legends Wizkid and Davido reignited on the 1st of October 2024, sparking a major wave of social media reactions.
The event began late on October 1, 2024, when Wizkid posted a cryptic tweet on X saying, “Beg me! just like …”
After the post, fans and X users quickly realized the message referenced a viral video of Davido. The video, which is no longer on X, allegedly showed Davido in a compromising situation, making pleas for something personal.
When Andrew McKnight inquired of Wizkid, “Does that mean your song won’t sell if you don’t have a feud with @davido?,” he responded, “I do not engage with untalented individuals! It is widely recognized that he lacks talent!”
Reactions of Fans Following the Wizkid and Davido Feud
Nigerians have responded to Wizkid’s posts, with many expressing dissatisfaction over the ongoing feud. Here are some comments from Nigerians on the issue.
Renowned OAP Do2dtun expressed on X, “This is the longest rivalry in the history of Nigerian entertainment. We are exhausted!”
Social media influencer Daniel Regha criticized Wizkid, stating, “Wizkid asserts that Davido is a ‘wack’ artist lacking talent, yet he overlooks a crucial fact: he would not have achieved his current status without Davido’s influence. Their ongoing rivalry with the so-called ‘no talent’ artist continues to sustain his relevance. Furthermore, in terms of lyrical ability, neither artist can be deemed superior to the other.”
Another X user, Regha stated, “Wizkid, it is inappropriate for you to discuss ‘mids’ when you have not released a successful song in several years. Additionally, please be mindful of your language.”
Big Ayo,on X commented, “Wizkid will be enjoying his time smoking Igbo and eating suya, while the camp of the other individual will be making disparaging remarks and insults towards him. If he chooses to respond, everyone will claim that ‘he initiated it, he is seeking attention, and he is overly contentious.’ Such hypocrisy!”
Anny Chuk said, ‘‘We want peace, we don’t need all this. Enough, fuel is high, rice is high and transportation is high. They started what they could not finish, now they are playing a pity card”.
I am gardey added, “Normally baba all these things are meant to be enjoyed by fans because it’s part of entertainment but only if both of them didn’t take it desperately like it looks”.
Mockery and taunting are common among fans worldwide, especially in Nigeria. The rivalry between Davido and Wizkid often escalates due to fan behavior.
History of Wizkid and Davido’s Feud
In July 2014, after his performance in New York and ahead of his London concert, Wizkid posted on X, “I already killed NY!! London 26th Sept!! Manchester 28th Sept!!! Big surprise!! Still proper shows!! proper venues!!! #f**kboys**kad**k!!”
This message was widely interpreted as a jab at Davido, who had also performed at the same time.
However, in a 2016 interview with Olisa Dibua, Wizkid clarified that the post was directed at Davido but was a comment on the poor sound quality at a previous event.
Davido, in a separate interview with Dibua, maintained that Wizkid’s tweet was indeed aimed at him.
Since then, the rivalry between Wizkid and Davido, along with their fans, has continued intensively.
