57-Year-Old Businessman Wins LE 200,000 After Staking LE 2 in Mercury Lotto

A 57-year-old businessman from Bo, Abdul Kargbo, has become the first person ever to correctly predict the first five numbers in the Mercury International Lottery games, winning LE 170,000 after tax by staking just LE 2.
Kargbo, who has been playing the Mercury Lotto for over two decades, secured the win after correctly predicting all five lotto numbers, an extraordinary feat described by Martin Edmond Michael, Managing Director and CEO of Mercury International, as “first of its kind.”
With a bet of just two leones, Kargbo initially won LE 200,000, but after statutory tax deductions, he received LE 170,000.

The cheque presentation ceremony took place on Monday, April 13, 2026, at the Mercury International head office on Krootown Road in Freetown.
Michael revealed that he personally requested the presentation be held at the head office so he could meet the winner and present the cheque himself.
Speaking during the presentation, Michael described the win as a historic moment for both the company and the winner.
He noted that accurately predicting all five lottery numbers is highly uncommon, adding that he had never heard of anyone achieving such a feat since the establishment of the company.
Lottery players are usually encouraged to select two or three numbers to increase their chances, but Kargbo opted for all five numbers and got them all correct.
“This is an extraordinary achievement,” Michael said, adding that Kargbo’s success highlights how unpredictable and exciting the lottery can be.
He congratulated Kargbo, praised his determination, and encouraged him to invest the money wisely.
Ongoing Promotions and Responsible Gaming Reminder

Michael also used the opportunity to talk about an ongoing promotion on the company’s online platform, Mercury Bet, where one participant stands a chance to win a brand-new house.
While encouraging participation, he emphasised responsible gaming, reminding the public that individuals under 18 are prohibited from playing Mercury International games and advising eligible players to “play what they can afford.”
Kargbo Describes Win as ‘Dream Come True’

In his response, Kargbo expressed gratitude to Mercury International, describing the win as “a dream come true,” especially as it comes just days before his birthday.
He encouraged others to trust the company, stating that his win proves its credibility. According to Kargbo, success in lottery games depends largely on luck and patience.
Kargbo said it was his first time winning such a significant amount of money.
As a businessman and father of six, he plans to invest the money into expanding his business and supporting his children’s education.
