Ghanaian-born midfield maestro, Samuel Kweku Bekoe, has earned his first national team call-up to represent Sierra Leone in their upcoming friendly matches against Benin and Somalia in Casablanca, Morocco, later this month.

Bekoe’s journey to this national call-up is a testament to his remarkable consistency and standout performances in Sierra Leone’s top flight league, particularly with East End Lions.

The East End Lions midfielder is highly skilled and has vision, and tenacity on the field. His performances in the midfield not only helped his team but also caught the attention of scouts and football enthusiasts across Sierra Leone. His consistency and impact were instrumental in East End Lions campaign last season.

Bekoe’s versatility and ability to adapt shone during his loan spell with Bo Rangers. Notably, he played a pivotal role in helping the team reach the West Africa Cup Final, a significant achievement for the club. His exceptional midfield prowess earned him the title of the Best Midfielder in the tournament, reflecting his influence on the game. He also performed extremely well in the team’s CAF Champions League preliminary rounds campaign.

In 2021, questions arose regarding his eligibility to represent Sierra Leone, with Kei Kamara expressing doubts due to Bekoe’s lack of Sierra Leonean roots. Kamara suggested that the national squad could benefit more from homegrown talent.
