Sierra Leone: 2019 T20 Cricket Premier League kick starts
The Sierra Leone Cricket Association have officially lunched the T20 Cricket Men’s Premier League on Saturday 21st April 2019, at the Prince of Wales Oval Grounds in Kingtom.
The league is expected to last for a period of ninety days.
Eleven clubs will battle for the Championship Trophy in this year’s T20 format home and away basis which are; Asian Pro Cricket Club, Police Cricket Club, Midwest Cricket Club, Old Edwardians Cricket Club, RSLAF Cricket Club, Kent Cricket Club, Non Discript Cricket Club, Murray Town Cricket Club, Wanderers Cricket Club, and the Regent Olympics Club.
Fancis Trevor Samura CEO of the Cricket Association said, “this year’s opening ceremony will mark the official opening of the T20 men’s Cricket Premier League.”
”We will use this opportunity to give medal, awards and trophies to the previous individual players who participated in the 2018 season,” he stated .
He intimated that they recognised the roles and contributions that sponsors have played in the development of Cricket, so they will give them something in appreciation of their vigorous support towards the game, and also individuals who have immensely played a part in the development of cricket in the country.
The presentations covered the 2018 T20 Cricket League, the 2019 ODI Youth Cricket League that concluded last week and also the T20 Women’s Cricket League that concluded three weeks ago. They unveiled the 2019 Marcury T20 Premier League Trophy.
The Police Women’s Cricket team won the Sierra Leone Mercury Women’s Cricket T20 Premier League, whilst the Sierra Leone Correctional Services Women’s Cricket team finished as runners up. In the youth ODI league, the Police Youth Cricket Team finished as runners up .
Midwest Cricket Club, emerged champions in the just concluded Youth League, team manager Daniel Koroma intimated switsalone that they are well prepared for the new season, as they are the team that have youthful players.
“The 2018 T20 Men’s League, Asian Lions emerged as the champions, whilst Midwest Cricket Club ended as the runners up, and the just concluded Youth League my team Midwest Criket Club emerged as the champions, that can tell you that Midwest will definitely win this year’s league,” said Koroma.
Ismeal Kargbo a player of Regent Olympics expressed how excited he was to play in this year’s league for the first.
” I am a batman, and I feel very excited to play in this year’s league for the very first time, I want to be the highest scorer in cricket for Sierra Leone in the future” said Kargbo.
The Opening ceremony was very colourful, and well organized as cricket loving fans from all walks of life graced the occasion. Medals and trophies were given to deserving individuals, players and sponsors.
