Mercury International Presents NLe114,068 Cheque to Kenema Football Betting Winner

A 200-leone football bet on 15 teams has turned into a six-figure win for a customer from Kenema.

Mercury International, on Monday, September 14, 2026, presented a cheque of NLe114,068 to a lucky football betting customer from Kenema, following his successful bet on 15 teams.

The winner, identified as Michael, staked just NLe200 on the 15-team bookmaker ticket and walked away with a win that made him a millionaire in leones.

The cheque presentation took place at Mercury International’s headquarters at Kroo Town Road, where the company’s Chief Financial Officer, Ekundayo Emmanuel Rowe, officially handed over the winnings.

According to Mercury’s Deputy PR Manager, Sahr Morris Jr., the latest presentation was another opportunity for the company to honour a customer who had won through its football betting platform.

“This time around, it is not Lotto, but football. It is also not online; it is a ticket, which we call a bookmaker,” Morris explained.

He said Michael travelled from Kenema and had staked NLe200 on 15 teams before emerging as the latest winner.

From NLe200 to NLe114,068

Speaking during the presentation, Rowe said the win demonstrated Mercury International’s ability to pay customers who successfully win their bets.

He said making payments without unnecessary delays helps build customers’ confidence in the company’s processes and systems.

“We know that when somebody wins, and we do the payment without delay, we know that person will also get confidence in our processes, our systems and our procedures,” Rowe said.

“These days in Sierra Leone, once you see you win and tap into the money, it begins reducing in value,” Rowe said, encouraging Michael to have a plan for the winnings.

He suggested options such as investing in Treasury Bills or putting the money into an existing business or increasing stock for a business.

For someone looking to start a business, he advised the winner to first investigate opportunities that could provide good returns before investing.

Rowe also cautioned against rushing into spending the money simply because it was an unexpected win.

“Don’t just go and say, ‘Okay, I have won, now let me enjoy.’ Enjoyment will come at any time,” he said, while encouraging Michael to think carefully about how to use the money.
