Bayern Munich and England striker Harry Kane has won the 2026 Ballon d’Or after scoring 73 goals in 65 appearances for club and country, becoming the first English player to claim the prestigious award since Michael Owen in 2001.

The 33-year-old received the award at a ceremony held at the London Palladium on Monday, October 26, beating Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé and Barcelona youngster Lamine Yamal, who finished second and third respectively.

Kane also claimed the Gerd Müller Trophy, awarded to the best goalscorer, following his remarkable performances throughout the 2025/26 season.

The England captain enjoyed the most prolific campaign of his career, scoring 61 goals in 51 appearances for Bayern Munich and another 12 goals for England.

His impressive performances helped Bayern secure the Bundesliga title and German Cup, while England finished third at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Kane scored 36 goals in the Bundesliga, finishing as the league’s leading scorer for the third consecutive season. He also registered 14 goals in the UEFA Champions League and 10 in the German Cup.

His goalscoring achievements earned him the Gerd Müller Trophy for the second time, having previously shared the award with Mbappé in 2024.

Kane’s victory ends a 25-year wait for an English footballer to win the Ballon d’Or.

He becomes the fifth English player to receive the award, joining Stanley Matthews, Bobby Charlton, Kevin Keegan and Michael Owen.

The former Tottenham Hotspur striker also becomes the first Bayern Munich player to win the award since Karl-Heinz Rummenigge in 1981.

Speaking at the ceremony, Kane expressed his gratitude to his teammates, coaches and those who supported him throughout his career.

“It was the best season of my career without a doubt,” Kane said while reflecting on his achievements.

He credited his Bayern Munich and England teammates, alongside coaches Vincent Kompany and Thomas Tuchel, for contributing to his success.

Kane’s Ballon d’Or triumph marks another major milestone in a career that has seen him establish himself among Europe’s leading goalscorers.

Kane spent much of his professional career at Tottenham Hotspur. He became the club’s all-time leading goalscorer before joining Bayern Munich in 2023.

His move to Germany has brought domestic trophies and individual recognition, culminating in football’s most prestigious individual honour.

Kane scored 73 goals in 65 matches during the 2025/26 campaign. The season ranks among the most productive of his career.
