Energy For Opportunity (EFO) is a not-for-profit organization working to improve livelihoods in West Africa through the provision and installation of clean, sustainable, photovoltaic, electricity-generating infrastructure. It was established in 2008 by Simon Willan and Paul Munro, who had previously worked together on a number of renewable energy projects in Sierra Leone, Liberia and Uganda.
Their work in Sierra Leone ranges from providing community charging stations to off grid villages, solar powered computer labs to secondary schools, training University students on electrical engineering and solar installations, and most importantly, providing solar energy to rural clinics.
The short documentary above is off the implementation of solar energy at Kamakwie Wesleyan Hospital, in Bombali District, Northern Sierra Leone. While I believe that we are overloaded with the ‘workshop and sensitization’ NGOs I am always excited by alternative development efforts that target rural communities.
Thanks EFO…Solar Energy is way Cool!!
To support the work of EFO please visit them at http://www.energyforopportunity.org/. Every little bit helps.
