As we travel down the road to reconstruction we have to stay positive about everything. Because before change can happen you have to believe. I dont think South Africans ever stopped believing that apartheid would end or that African Americans in Montgomery, Alabama lost faith in the bus boycott. The first step to change is faith. If we as Sierra Leoneans dont believe the best about ourselves then nothing will change. We have to have faith and hope for the best. Even when things seem hopeless you gotta have faith. Sierra Leone is not going to recover and develop is Sierra Leoneans continue to cry down each other and the country. Positivity is the key. We have no right to be negative and no justifiable reason not to believe that change will come. Sierra Leone is not the first country in the world to have experienced civil war, to have corrupt leader, or be underdeveloped. Nations have experienced far worse and triumphed. We have to believe that we will too. Though we need alot of assistance we have to start with ourselves. No american, brit, irani or libyan is going to love salone or want more for salone then a Sierra Leonean so development first and foremost lies with us.
Every Sierra Leonean: must love Sierra Leone
believe in the possibility of change
be willing to take action for development
think possitively of Sierra Leone and other Sierra Leoneans
We must rethink the words of the national anthem and keep them always in our hearts especially when we want to despair as these words express all that we need for inspiration and positivity.
Lyrics by Clifford Nelson Pyle
Music Composed by John Joseph Akar
High we exalt thee, realm of the free;Great is the love we have for thee;Firmly united ever we stand,Singing thy praise, O native land.We raise up our hearts and our voices on high,The hills and the valleys re-echo our cry;Blessing and peace be ever thine own,Land that we love, our Sierra Leone.
One with a faith that wisdom inspires,One with a zeal that never tires;Ever we seek to honour thy name,Ours is the labour, thine the fame.We pray that no harm on thy children may fall,That blessing and peace may descend on us all;So may we serve thee ever alone,Land that we love, our Sierra Leone.
Knowledge and truth our forefathers spread,Mighty the nations whom they led;Mighty they made thee, so too may weShow forth the good that is ever in thee.We pledge our devotion, our strength and our might,Thy cause to defend and to stand for thy right; All that we have be ever thine own,Land that we love, our Sierra Leone.
