Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, is a sacred time for Muslims worldwide. It is a month of fasting, prayer, and deep spiritual reflection.

As the blessed month begins, believers seek to strengthen their connection with Allah (SWT) through acts of worship, charity, and sincere repentance.

Ramadan is divided into three segments, known as Ashras, each lasting approximately ten days.

The Struggle and Reward of the First Ten Days

The transition into fasting can be physically and mentally challenging in the first ten days. However, this period is a time of purification, training the body and soul to resist worldly temptations. It is an opportunity to reflect on the blessings that are often taken for granted and develop patience and gratitude.

Charity plays a significant role in seeking Allah’s mercy. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said

“The believer’s shade on the Day of Resurrection will be his charity.”

(Al-Tirmidhi)

Supporting those in need, especially orphans, widows, and the less fortunate, is one of the most rewarding acts of worship. Whether through monetary donations, feeding the hungry, or simple acts of kindness, giving in charity is a means to attain Allah’s mercy and blessings.

The first ten days of Ramadan lay the foundation for a spiritually fulfilling month. By seeking Allah’s mercy, increasing in worship, and performing good deeds, believers prepare their hearts for the journey ahead

Understanding The First Ten Days

The first Ashra is called the Days of Mercy (Rahmah), a time dedicated to seeking Allah’s mercy while extending forgiveness to others.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said,

“When Ramadan enters, the gates of Paradise are opened, the gates of Hellfire are closed, and the devils are chained.” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

This hadith highlights the immense blessings of Ramadan. The first ten days are an opportunity to cleanse the soul, increase good deeds, and establish habits that will carry through the rest of the month.

Acts of Worship in The First 10 Days

The first Ashra is a time to seek Allah’s mercy through acts of devotion. Reciting the Qur’an daily strengthens faith and deepens understanding. Increasing in du’a (supplication) brings believers closer to their Creator. One of the most important supplications to recite during this Ashra is

رَّبِّ اغْفِرْ وَارْحَمْ وَأَنتَ خَيْرُ الرَّاحِمِين

“O! My Lord, forgive and have mercy, and You are the Best of Merciful.”

Sincerely repenting for past mistakes and seeking Allah’s forgiveness is essential. Just as we seek His mercy, we should also forgive those who have wronged us, fostering compassion and peace in our hearts.

May Allah (SWT) shower His mercy upon all and guide them toward righteousness. Ameen.
