Sierra Leonean scrabbler, Emmanuel King Esq., secured the gold medal at the All-African Games in Accra, Ghana, marking Sierra Leone’s first gold in this tournament.
King’s triumph also signifies a milestone as the first Scrabble player to secure gold since the introduction of Scrabble into the All-African Games, ending his dry spell after participating in 15 major international events.
The competition lasted three intense days, featuring a challenging continental showdown that united 14 nations, with 24 players competing in the main men’s category.
The lawyer has previously earned numerous medals in Sierra Leone. According to an article from NewsWatch, King describes Scrabble as his secondary career.
“This is a proud moment for me, and I must thank the Lord for his faithfulness. I also thank my mum and my lovely fiance for their steadfast support all these years,” said King.
“It has been responsible for how I approach life. The game teaches problem-solving and strategic analysis, added to a strong vocabulary arsenal,” he added.
Congratulations to Emmanuel King Esq., Sierra Leone is proud of you!
