Sierra Leone names 23 man squad to play in first International match after ban
The head coach of Sierra Leone Senior National Football Team Silas Tetteh has officially released a 23 man squad that is set to clash with the Liberian side in Monrovia ahead of the Qatar World Cup Preliminary Qualifications.
The list of the players came out after series of intensive training sessions were held at the football academy in Kingtom Freetown. Fifteen (15) foreign-based players and eight (8) Homebase players make up the squad of 23 that is set to face Lone Stars of Liberia.
Two names are notable in the team, the inclusion of Kei Kamara and Musa Noah Kamara (Musa Tombo) in the squad.
The Kamaras has been the center of attention for the past couple of weeks. Kei was suspended from the team after some comment he made on social media but his suspension was lifted after he registered his apology.
Musa Tombo terminated his three and a half year contract with Swedish third-tier club Trellerborgs days after signing the contract igniting a huge controversy.
The first leg of the tie between Liberia and Sierra Leone will take place in Monrovia on the 4th September 2019 and will be followed by the return leg on the 8th September 2019 in Freetown.
This will be the first competitive match Sierra Leone will be playing after the ban by FIFA relating to the country’s Anti Corruption Commission opening an investigation on Sierra Leone Football Association President Isha Johansen was lifted.
