18 winners at inaugural Sierra Leone Youth Excellence Awards 2013 (Photos)

The first Youth Excellence Awards were held at the Family Kingdom Resort in Freetown on Saturday night. Eighteen young Sierra Leoneans were awarded for excellence in the arts, business, community service, media, sports, entrepreneurship, and scholastics. The winners were selected  by a panel of three judges from a pool of nominees submitted by the public between February and March of this year. The awards were open to anyone aged 15-35 of Sierra Leonean ancestry or birth.  The Youth Excellence Awards was created by Vickie Remoe of Vickie Remoe and Company publishers of GoWoman Magazine, and the event was co-produced by Ajara Bomah’s Royalty Concepts.

Event sponsors included Africa Links Inspection Company, James International, Protec Security & Logistics, TrainingSol, Music Makers, Airtel, Sierra Leone Commercial Bank, Balani & Sons, Merani (VICCO), and Visit Sierra Leone. The computers presented to some awardees were made possible by contributions from Cathy Kabia, Abdul H. Kabia, Alimamy Dura Kamara, Mustapha Kamara, and the Sierra Leone American Family Club in the NY/NJ metro area. Mr IK Okoli and Stephan Macauley also made generous contributions to this year’s awards. Nominations for the next Youth Excellence Awards will open in January 2014. The Youth Excellence Awards was wholly funded by Vickie Remoe & Co. and the event sponsors. This year’s awards were 100% private sector driven.
