You may have heard of Mariatu Kamara’s Bite of the Mango published back in 2008 in Canada.
The Bite of a Mango is a memoir of her experience in Sierra Leone during the civil war and her fight to survive the loss of both her hands. Her book was nominated for the Canadian Willow Awards.
She has started the Mariatu Foundation to advocate for children affected by war and was awarded several literary awards in 2009 for her book.
