Sierra Leonean talkshow host and multimedia journalist Vickie Remoe, hosted a small gathering of friends at Bliss Cafe on Wilkinson Road in Freetown for the local launch of her Swit Salone website. Switsalone is Sierra Leone’s leading online destination for both news and entertainment. Before the launch party Remoe had a series of interviews on the Sierra Leone’s Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) to inform local internet users of her website. With the availability of 3G services, internet is now more easily accessible to hundreds of thousands via their mobile phones.
The launch party started with a live afro-reggae performance by the Sierra Leone Police Band who were later joined by Miss Julie, a singer with Forensic records. Remoe introduced the guests of hoteliers, and local business owners to SwitSalone.com explaining that the website “is a portal for both local and international community”. She also added that the website is now open for business and accepting banner adverts from local businesses.
Guests were treated to a fashion show from Vivid Emporium designed by Kadiatu Kamara. Five beautiful models wore designs from the “misfit” collection which Kadi describes “as African prints that may have initially started out as errors but reconfigured to be bespoke pieces.”
The highlight of the night was a live performance from Sierra Leonean singer/rapper Bu-Berry who sang hits including “old fire wood”, and “Koh Bukoh.” Those present received parting gifts of T-shirts and DVDs.
