Bo Rangers lifting the Unity Trophy
East End Lions’ big-name signing, Magdy Gamal Fouda, endured a frustrating debut as the Killers were beaten 2-1 by Bo Rangers in the 2026 Unity Cup at the Southern Arena in Bo.
The Egyptian winger arrived at East End Lions with expectations after the club announced his signing just a day before the Unity Cup clash. But his first appearance for the Freetown side ended without the trophy, as Bo Rangers used home advantage to claim the season-opening silverware.
Fouda, who operates mainly from the left wing, had been included in East End Lions’ 22-man squad for the match after completing his move to the club. The 26-year-old previously featured for Petrojet in Egypt’s Premier League and also played for Sporting Castle and Al Nassr Export.
High Expectations Around Fouda

East End Lions had moved quickly to strengthen their attack ahead of the new domestic campaign.
The club described Fouda as an attacking player capable of adding pace, dribbling and creativity to the squad. Reports about his signing highlighted his ball control, strength and ability to operate on the flank. His arrival therefore generated attention before he had even kicked a ball for the club.
The timing made Sunday’s Unity Cup particularly significant.
The match was not only a meeting between two traditional rivals, it was Fouda’s first opportunity to show what he could bring to the defending Unity Cup champions.
But the Egyptian could not inspire the Killers to victory.
Bo Rangers Take the Early Advantage

Bo Rangers entered the contest as the reigning Leone Rock Premier League champions, while East End Lions arrived as the holders of the Orange Sierra Leone FA Cup.
The Premier League Board had scheduled the Unity Cup as the curtain-raiser for the 2026/27 domestic season, with the league itself scheduled to begin on October 10.
Bo Rangers had another advantage.
They were playing in front of their home supporters at the Southern Arena, the stadium that hosted last year’s Unity Cup final, when East End Lions defeated Bhantal 2-0.
This time, however, the trophy would stay in Bo.
Bo Rangers eventually secured a 2-1 victory over the Killers.
For East End Lions, it was a disappointing beginning to a new season in which expectations remain high following their FA Cup success.
The Killers’ New Season Challenge

The defeat also provides an early warning for East End Lions ahead of the 2026/27 Leone Rock Premier League campaign.
The Killers finished fourth in the 2025/26 league season with 53 points, while Bo Rangers finished top with 64 points and were crowned champions.
East End Lions did, however, finish their campaign with silverware after winning the Orange Sierra Leone FA Cup.
They now have to turn that cup success into a stronger league challenge.
The club’s recruitment of Fouda is part of that effort.
His arrival suggests the Killers want more attacking options as they prepare for another demanding domestic campaign.
But Sunday’s result shows that signing individual players will not by itself solve the team’s problems.
Fouda’s Real Test Starts Now

For Fouda, the 2-1 defeat should not define his time at East End Lions.
He had only just joined the club and was immediately thrown into a high-profile match against the reigning league champions.
The Egyptian now has the rest of the season to prove whether the expectations surrounding his arrival were justified.
The winger comes with experience from Egyptian football, including a spell with Petrojet in the Egyptian Premier League. East End Lions are hoping that experience can translate into goals, assists and attacking performances in Sierra Leone.
The Unity Cup defeat, however, means his first chapter with the Killers begins with disappointment.
Bo Rangers Set the Tone

For Bo Rangers, the victory provides an early boost under new head coach Dominic Kanneh.
The match was also an opportunity for Kanneh to assess his squad ahead of the new league season, with new signings including Alya Soumah and Osman Conteh available for selection.
The victory gives the Elephants an early piece of silverware and, perhaps more importantly, another reminder of their status as one of Sierra Leone’s leading domestic clubs.
They won the 2025/26 Leone Rock Premier League and now begin the new campaign by beating the team that lifted the FA Cup.
For the East End Lions, the defeat is an early setback.
For Fouda, it is an uncomfortable first chapter.
But with the 2026/27 league season only days away, there is little time to dwell on it.
The Egyptian winger and the Killers now have to turn the disappointment of Southern Arena into motivation for the much longer campaign ahead.
