The Ramadan Food Drive is back to give Sierra Leoneans in the diaspora and in Freetown a chance to support needy families. Now in its fifth year, the online fundraising campaign aims to feed 300 families across the nation’s capital during the last 10 days of the Muslim holy month.

Since 2020, the fundraiser has raised over $15,000 from online and mobile money donations.

A donation of $50 is all it takes to feed a family of eight. The campaign ensures that vulnerable families break their fast with dignity.

A Partnership Built on Compassion

The Ramadan Food Drive is a collaboration between Suafiatu Tunis, a Sierra Leonean social worker, and VR&C Marketing Company, the nation’s premier digital marketing and PR agency.

Tunis, who relocated to Sierra Leone from Saudi Arabia during the Ebola epidemic, has dedicated her career to supporting vulnerable communities, including the Ebola and the Wellington fire survivors, through the Ramadan Food Drive.

VR&C leverages its digital skills and social media platforms, mobilises donations and resources for the campaign every year, with donations sprouting from its online community.

Donations are sent to Tunis, who, with the help of local mosques, identifies families in need, sources food supplies, and coordinates distribution.

The partnership has helped hundreds of households during Ramadan for the past five years running.

“We are excited to continue this initiative in 2026,” said Vickie Remoe. “Our goal is to make it easier for families to observe the last ten days of Ramadan without worrying about basic food needs.”

The Ramadan Food Drive has helped more than a thousand people since 2020 and has raised over $15,098 to support the cause.

In 2025, the campaign raised $4,535 and provided food to over 100 families and 42 individuals in Freetown communities, including Up Gun, Shell, Portee, Wellington, and Waterloo.

In 2024, VR&C Marketing Company and Tunis raised over $5,600, including Le 25,070 from mobile money donations in Sierra Leone.  $2,160 and $2,803 were also raised in 2022 and 2023 as well.

Support comes from local donors, diaspora communities, and corporate partners, demonstrating a broad commitment to social welfare.

Over the years, the Ramadan Food Drive has distributed a variety of essential food items to hundreds of low-income muslim families, including rice, beans, palm oil, chicken, fish, onions, seasoning, and other basic provisions.

The Ramadan Food Drive provides essential food items, including rice, beans, palm oil, chicken, fish, onions, and seasoning.

A donation of $50 can provide a family with essential food items for the last ten days of Ramadan.

“Every contribution helps bring food and hope to families in need,” said Suafiatu. “We look forward to another successful drive and hope the community continues to support this important initiative.”

Contributions can be made online or through local payment platforms in Sierra Leone, with multiple options available for individuals and organisations wishing to support the cause.

Donations can be made:

“Every contribution, no matter the size, helps bring food and hope to families in need,” said Suafiatu Tunis.

“We invite everyone to join us in this effort,” said Vickie. “Together, we can make this Ramadan a time of compassion, generosity, and community support.”
