Sierra Leone U-17 Women’s Team Departs for Mali Ahead of World Cup Qualifier

The Sierra Leone U-17 Women’s National Team has left the Ahmed Sekou Touré International Airport in Conakry, Guinea, en route to Mali for the decisive return leg of their FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup African qualifiers against Guinea.

The young Sierra Leonean queens headed into the encounter with high hopes after a 2-2 draw in the first leg, which was played in Southern Arena in Bo. With everything to play for, the team is focused on delivering a strong performance that will secure their place in the next qualification round, where they would face the winner of the Ivory Coast vs. Burundi tie.

Leading the delegation is Miriam Heroe, Head of Women’s Football at the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), who has expressed confidence in the team’s ability to rise to the challenge.

The crucial match is set to take place on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Stade Mamadou Konate in Bamako, Mali.

As the U-17s prepare for this historic opportunity, the nation stands firmly behind them, hoping they can take a significant step toward securing a spot in the prestigious global tournament.

 

Fans have flooded social media with messages of encouragement, wishing the team success in their crucial match. 

Ackson Mwanza urged them on, saying, “Safe journey, go and win. Score more goals, girls!” while Alhaji Brima Moiguah Lahai cheered, “Go make us proud, girls!!!”

Isatu A Kamara expressed her excitement, writing, “Victory all the way, best of luck team ,” and Hassan Salieu Kamara added, “Keep it up guys, victory is ours for our darling queens.” 

Musa Jg Vandy wrapped up the well-wishes with a motivating message, saying, “Good luck, go and make history.”
