Guinea’s ruling National Council of the Rally for Development (CRND), has dissolved the interim government in the West African nation. This was announced by the presidency’s secretary on Monday, February 19, 2024.

According to the order, directors of the cabinet, secretary generals, and their deputies will assume responsibilities until the formation of a new government. Guinea has been under military rule since September 2021, led by Colonel Mamady Doumbouya.

Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces Ibrahima Sory Bangoura also, announced that members of the dissolved government must promptly return their vehicles and passports. Additionally, their bodyguards are instructed to cease their services, and the bank accounts of the ministers have been frozen.

The West African regional bloc, ECOWAS, has been applying pressure on the junta, among others in the region, to organize elections within a reasonable timeframe and reinstate civilian governance.
