Naphessa Collier is a talented Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) Player who has captivated fans around the world with her skills and dedication on the court. What sets her apart from the other professional players in the league is not just her skills but her unique background as a Sierra Leonean American. 

Napheesa Collier was born on September 23, 1996, in Jefferson City, Missouri, to parents Sarah and Gamal Collier. While she was raised in the United States, Collier has always maintained a solid connection to her Sierra Leonean heritage. Her mother, Sarah, hails from Sierra Leone. In 2022 she released Napheesa Collier x KD 15 ‘Community’ a collaboration sneaker with Nike, on the tongue of the sneaker she inscribed the words “Any way na way” a Krio saying 

Collier’s passion for basketball began at an early age. Encouraged by her family, she honed her skills and quickly emerged as a standout player in high school. Her exceptional talent earned her multiple accolades, including Missouri Gatorade Player of the Year and McDonald’s All-American honors. Collier’s success continued at the collegiate level when she joined the University of Connecticut Huskies, one of the most successful women’s basketball programs in history.

Collier’s impact on the court was undeniable during her time at UConn. She contributed to the team’s four consecutive Final Four appearances and two NCAA championships in 2016 and 2018. Known for her versatility, Collier showcased her ability to excel in all facets of the game, earning her recognition as the American Athletic Conference Player of the Year and a unanimous selection for the All-American First Team in her junior and senior seasons.

In 2019, Napheesa Collier took the WNBA by storm when she was selected sixth overall by the Minnesota Lynx in the draft. It didn’t take long for her to make an impact, as she quickly established herself as a key player for the Lynx. Collier’s versatility, basketball IQ, and strong work ethic made her an integral part of the team’s success. In her rookie season, she averaged 13.1 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game, earning her the WNBA Rookie of the Year award.

Napheesa Collier’s impact extends beyond basketball.
