Daniella Boima Garrick Makes History, Wins First-Edition of Miss Albinism Africa

Sierra Leonean model and disability rights advocate, Daniella Boima Garrick, has made history by winning the crown at the first-ever Miss Albinism Africa 2025 pageant, held in Harare, Zimbabwe, on June 28th, 2025.
Garrick, who represented Sierra Leone alongside fellow advocate Hamid Mo Kamara, emerged as the top female contestant among 31 participants from across the continent. Her win marks a significant milestone not only for the albino community in Sierra Leone but for the nation’s representation in the global fight against stigma, discrimination, and marginalization.
“This crown is not just mine. It belongs to every girl who has ever been told she’s not enough because of her skin,” Garrick said according to The Africa Dream after being announced winner.
A student of Public Health at Milton Margai Technical University, Garrick is also the Ambassador and Gender Welfare Safeguarding Officer for the Sierra Leone Association of Persons with Albinism (SLAPA) and the National Youth Leader for the Sierra Leone Union on Disability Issues.
Her participation was fueled by a mission far greater than pageantry. Through the platform, Garrick advocated for the inclusion of women and girls with albinism in education, healthcare, leadership, and employment.
Garrick ’s victory comes at a time when advocates across Africa are pushing for greater visibility and rights for people with albinism, who often face dangerous myths, limited access to healthcare, and societal discrimination.
Throughout the competition, she stood out not only for her poise and modeling talent, but for her clarity of purpose, her message of empowerment, and her calls for unity.
The Sierra Leone Association of Persons with Albinism has played a key role in supporting her journey and continues to lead advocacy efforts at home.
As the newly crowned Miss Albinism Africa, Garrick is expected to serve as a continental ambassador, raising awareness on issues affecting persons with albinism and continuing her work in education and policy advocacy.
