Burna Boy’s ‘Love Damini’ Album Achieves RIAA Gold Status

Nigerian Afrobeat artist Burna Boy’s sixth album, ‘Love, Damini,’ received an RIAA Gold plaque on October 22 2024. Released in 2022, ‘Love, Damini’ has sold 500,000 units in the US, earning the prestigious Gold certification from the Recording Industry Association Of America (RIAA)

The album, featuring significant hit tracks that cement his status as one of Africa’s foremost musical exports, reached this milestone in the US.

The Success of Burna Boy’s Album

This achievement stems from the album’s hit tracks, particularly, ‘Last Last,’ which spent several weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at No. 44.

The collaboration, “For My Hand,” with Grammy-winning British artist Ed Sheeran, along with guest features from J Hus, J Balvin, and Khalid, boosted the album’s global success.

The Gold certification of ‘Love, Damini’ places it alongside Wizkid’s ‘Made In Lagos’, Rema’s ‘Raves & Roses (Ultra)’, and Tems’ ‘For Broken Ears’ as Nigerian albums that have received RIAA Gold recognition.

All these albums feature hit tracks that enjoyed extended runs on the Billboard Hot 100.

Wizkid’s album ‘Made In Lagos’ included a popular ‘Essence’ remix featuring Tems and Justin Bieber, which peaked at No. 9.

Rema’s ‘Raves & Roses (Ultra)’ featured the global hit ‘Calm Down’ with Selena Gomez, which reached No. 3.

Tems’ ‘For Broken Ears’ included the standout track ‘Free Mind,’ which stayed on the charts for several weeks.
