A Mercury Lotto player who said his late mother revealed the winning numbers to him in a dream has become the biggest individual winner in Mercury Lottery so far this year, taking home NLe245,000 after statutory tax deductions.

Yusuf Kamanda collected his cheque at the Mercury Operations and Payout Head Office on Walpole Street in Freetown on 29 June 2026.

Speaking during the payout, Kamanda described the life-changing win as something he never expected, and attributed his winning to staking higher.

Six Years of Persistence Pays Off

Kamanda said he has been playing Mercury Lotto consistently for the past six to seven years, regularly winning smaller amounts ranging from Le1,000 to Le3,000.

According to him, those modest wins encouraged him to increase his stake over time, believing that larger stakes offered greater opportunities for bigger returns.

“This is my biggest winning ever,” he said. “When I used to win Le1,000, Le2,000 and Le3,000, I decided to start staking higher because the more you play, the more you can win.”

Dream Inspired the Winning Numbers

Kamanda said the winning numbers came to him in a dream involving his late mother.

He explained that he dreamed his mother revealed the numbers and instructed him to play them. Upon waking, he immediately wrote them down to avoid forgetting them.

Initially, he planned to stake Le200 on the numbers but later felt convinced to double his stake to Le400.

“I wanted to use Le200, but I had a strong conviction to increase it to Le400,” he recalled.

He divided the amount by placing Le200 on Super, Le100 on Turbo 2 and Le100 on Turbo 3. However, the Super game had already closed before the ticket could be processed, leaving only the Turbo 2 and Turbo 3 entries active.

Disbelief Turns Into Celebration

Kamanda said he discovered he had won after receiving a WhatsApp notification from a Mercury Lotto results group he had joined.

“I was lying on my bed when I saw the results. All the numbers I played had come through,” he said.

Unable to believe the news, he first searched for his betting tickets to confirm they were still intact.

After verifying his win, Kamanda said he knelt and thanked God.

“I thanked God for blessing me with such a huge winning,” he said.

Plans to Build a Home

Kamanda said the prize money will be invested in building a family home for himself, his wives and children.

He expressed gratitude to Mercury International for what he described as easing the financial burdens of many Sierra Leoneans.

“I will put this money into good use and start building a house where myself, my wives and my children will call home,” he said.

“I want to look at that house one day and proudly say I built it with Mercury Lottery money.”

Despite the significant win, Kamanda said he has no intention of stopping.

He encouraged fellow Mercury Lotto players to continue participating and advised them to increase their stakes where possible.

“It is because I staked higher that I am now a millionaire,” he said. “After this winning, I am even more energetic to continue playing.”

Mercury Confirms Largest Individual Win of the Year

Speaking to Swit Salone, Noel Horton, Operations and Lottery Department Manager at Mercury International, confirmed that Kamanda’s payout is the largest single individual Mercury Lottery win recorded since the beginning of 2026.

He said the company remains committed to rewarding customers and maintaining confidence in its lottery operations.
