Sierra Leone mourns: Mrs Alice Koroma mother of the president
Mammy Alice Koroma, the mother of the President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Ernest Bai Koroma, has died today Friday July 6th 2012. The shocking news was reported this morning from Makeni, the birth place of the president and where the late Mammy Koroma lived.
Sources from the party said the body will be brought to Freetown where it will be laid for official ceremony before the burial at her home town in Kamabai village.
The Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee of Finance, Dr. Moses O.M. Sesay, said the news was shocking to every Sierra Leonean. “We are all bereaved,” he said, adding that the whole nation mourns at the loss of a mother who cares for her people.
Mrs Koroma is said to have played an active role in the transformation of Makeni as well as that of the village of Kamabai. Her last public appearance was at the commissioning of a bus named after her husband Sylvester Koroma for Sierra Leone Road Transport Authority.
Mrs Koroma was 80-years-old.
