Sierra Leone’s Madieu Williams free safety for the Minesota Vikings
Madieu Williams

Last week i read about Madieu Williams‘ most recent trip to Sierra Leone that was featured on NBCs Making a Difference and after much googling i discovered that this free safety with the Minesota Vikings, has a big ‘ol heart. Williams was born in Sierra Leone but emigrated to Maryland at the age of 9 with his mother, a nurse, Abigail Butscher (deceased)

In 2007 he signed a  six year $33 million contract with the Minesota Vikings. Prior to joining Minesota he was drafted to the NFL in 2004 to the Cincinati Bangels.

Last year he donated $2million to the University of Maryland for the creation of the Madieu Williams Center for Global Health Initiatives. In Sierra Leone he has constructed a school in Calaba town in memory of his mother under the Madieu Williams Foundation.

For his generosity, humility, and undying love and support for the people of Sierra Leone Madieu Willams is my switsalone hero of the week. It speaks volumes about Madieu that he comes home makes his contribution without any pomp or noise. Others would have been all over the radio and press to gloat and self promote but not Madieu.

Now that’s what I call classy.
