I have officially been recruited to be a part of the planning of Sierra Leone‘s 50th Independence Anniversary Celebration set to start January 1st – December 31st 2011. Back in May, Ernest Bai Koroma  appointed a Steering Committee with representation from different associations, organizations, governmental and non governmental to plan 50 years of Sierra Leonean Independence celebrations. Some of the people and organizations represented on the committee include, DJ Boxx (All Works of Life-AWOL), Dr. Julius Spencer (Premier Media Consultancy), Ambassador Ali Bangura (Sign Africa), Mrs Isha Johannsen (FC Johannsen), Milly Terry (Ministry of Tourism), Bhai Dhawa (SLBC TV). The 50th Anniversary Steering Committee is chaired by Dr. William Konteh (formerly NACSA) and the Executive Secretary is our very own Mrs Yeniva Sisay-Sogbeh. Dr. Konteh and Mrs Sisay-Sogbeh lead the Sierra Leone at 50 Secretariat. The role of the Secretariat is to execute the work of the Committee. The Secretariat is made up of a procurement officer, finance admin officer, communications/PR (My new job), and confidential secretary. The Secretariat is open to contributions from everyone. Internships are available too. The office is located on the 5th Floor of Sierra Leone Commercial Bank’s Building on Liverpool Street Freetown.
