Balmaya….21 years Later

One of the things I’ve been really wanted to do was to start a blog entirely dedicated to rating things more specically restaurants in Freetown…unfortunately i have not really been able to put enough fuel in my tank to do so. Until then, I’ve decided to just do it but here on Swit Salone.

Today i’d like to present BALMAYA RESTAURANT & ART GALLERY, located at Congo Cross. This is the first time I’ve been to Freetown and been to Balmaya…usually i just drive by. I’ve been there several times and it is very very well managed. Every day at around 1pm expats & diplomats (mostly white) flock to Balmaya ready to purchase their Le. 25000 African dish….cassava leaves, greens and what not….or a garden salad, sandwich….or olehleh.

The owner(s) of Balmaya have perfected the art of attracting a certain crowd of people from the international community. I on the other love Balmaya because the food is good, though pricy and I like the ambiance. Also it is the only place in town that i know with an art gallery. You can also buy copies of Aminita Forna’s Book at Balmaya….

THE CHICKEN SANDWICH at BALMAYA is to DIE FOR….Le. 15000. THE SERVICE IS ABOVE STANDARDS
here are some photographs from the gallery as well as the restaurant which boasts two levels….the upstairs is more private and has played hosts to many ameeting. Next time you go to BALMAYA please come back and rate it here on switsalone…
