Eight teams kicked off the King Leone Beach Football League on Lumley Beach in Freetown last week. The tournament which will happen every week for a month, brings together lovers of beer and football.
The first two teams to face off were Brothers FC and Pro-gressive Lions. Progressive Lions came out front with two goals very early on in the match. Brothers FC were able to to get one into the back of the net right before the half time starting a major comeback.
In the second half, Brothers FC returned stronger and more determined. They immediately got an equaliser and went ahead to win the match 3-2. This win took them straight to the second round of the league, sending Progressive Lions out.
Brother’s Keeper then took on Swerve Planet FC but they were out played and out scored. Even though it began to rain, Swerve Planet scored 10 goals and that match up ended with 10-2 eliminating Brothers FC from the league.
Next up was SLGS Class of ’07 and Moko Town FC who went head to head under the rain. SLGS Class of ’07 played well, but Moko Town FC won 3-2.
Team Breezy who were to play the next match against Lighters FC qualified without having to play as their oppo-nents were a no-show.
