President appoints Momoh Konte as Tom Obaleh’s NATCOM replacement

State House has announced that all members of Sierra Leone’s National Telecommunications Commission (NATCOM) including its current Chairman Mr. Tom Obaleh Kargbo are effectively relieved of their duties.

Mr. Momoh Konte (yes the same one of Aljazeera Timbergate fame and recently touted as saving Koinadugu from ebola in the Post) has been appointed as the new Chairman of NATCOM pending parliamentary approval.

In April 2012 the Commissioner of the ACC, Joseph F. Kamara indicted Konte and another with four counts of soliciting an advantage contrary to Secition 35, one (1) count of peddling influence contrary to Section 31 (3) and two (2) counts of Conspiracy to commit a corruption.

On April 2013 Konte was acquitted of all charges by Justice Abdulai Charm of the Freetown High Court. In his ruling Justice Charm said that the ACC had failed to prove its case.

According to his Linkedin profile Konte is a PHD candidate at the for profit E-University, Walden University and he holds an Masters in Economics from and the University of Toledo and a BA in Econ from Howard.

His previous employers are Transtech International and IPTV.
