Aliko Dangote at World Bank Youth Forum in Abuja – November 1st 2012

When the company owned by Nigeria’s richest man The Dangote Group put out an advert to hire 100 Graduate Executive truck drivers some 13,000 people applied for the position. Over 8000 of those who applied held a Bachelor’s degree. Another 704 had a second degree and 6 applicants had a Ph. D.

Billionaire Aliko Dangote disclosed this at the World Bank Youth Forum (WBYF) held in Abuja, Nigeria where he met with members of the forum on November 1st.

These numbers show that the country’s educational system is churning out graduates whose skill sets do not match the opportunities available in Nigeria.

WBYF “provides advisory and technical support for the World Bank on youth development in Nigeria and provides youth leaders a platform to engage with the bank.”
