One of Sierra Leone’s finest radio personalities has died.  DJ Pineapple whose real name was Winston Jackson passed away last week after  suffering from an undisclosed illness. Known for his radio pranks and distinctive voice, news of the Capital Radio ‘prime time’ DJ’s death came as a shock to FM listeners and the broadcast community.

Kris MacCormark a presenter at Capital Radio 104.9 FM, said he met Pineapple 4.5 years ago when he was on holiday and was fortunate to work with the deceased.

MacCormack who is presently on full-time and has worked for 18 months at the radio station said DJ Pineapple worked with UN Radio, SLBC, and he also played at the Ace’s Night Club.
“His death is a sad loss to us,” he said, adding that he was shocked when he heard the news.

“On Saturday morning, Nicky Spencer Coker made a tribute to him and someone has also composed a tribute song which we a playing on radio,”
he said.

MacCormack however noted that the late DJ was not well before his death and that it was on Facebook they got the news that he was seriously ill.

Revered by most Sierra Leoneans and friends as a fine gentle man, MarCormack said DJ Pineapple left behind a wife, children and a grand child.

Rest in Peace Mr. Winston ‘DJ Pineapple’ Winston

Just learnt that Winston, Winnie, Pineapple has past, what a shock, has not really sunk in, I once lived in the same house with his Mum and Dad, and knew his bother Julian well, we had some good conversations on his balcony, and some good nights out, such a nice guy, cool, calm, and collective… and just a cool cool voice through the mike… Love ya mate if you can hear me up there….
